Flash with the web flasher

~5 min Easy Unlocked X3 & X4

The web flasher is the default path for CrossPoint, or any firmware, on an unlocked Xteink X3 or X4. Open it in Chrome or Edge, plug in a USB-C data cable, click Flash. Nothing to install. About five minutes.

Requires an unlocked Xteink

If the web flasher never sees your Xteink, the unit is probably locked. Use the SD card method or the OTA Unlocker.

X4 Pro uses 1.6.0rc

The X4 Pro has no USB-C port. It charges on a pogo-pin adapter. Pick the X4 Pro model and flash CrossPoint 1.6.0rc, not the X3/X4 1.5.0 image. Front light works; lowest brightness and a dedicated toggle are still being polished. See the X4 Pro firmware note.

Pre-flight checklist

Have these four before you open the flasher.

  • Desktop Chrome or Edge. Firefox is inconsistent. Safari has no WebSerial.
  • A USB-C DATA cable, not a charge-only one (see step 1).
  • Xteink awake on the home screen, not asleep and not inside a book.
  • An unlocked Xteink. The flasher has to detect the device.

Flash your Xteink in 4 steps

  1. Connect a USB-C DATA cable and wake the device

    A charge-only cable silently fails, and a sleeping reader never registers as a serial port. This is the #1 mistake new owners make.

  2. Open the web flasher in Chrome or Edge

    Go to crosspointreader.com/#flash-tools or xteink.dve.al.

  3. Pick your model and firmware, then click Flash

    Select your Xteink in the browser's serial picker when it appears.

  4. Press Reset, then hold Power 3–5 seconds to boot

    The Xteink does not auto-reboot after a flash. A blank screen at this point usually just means it hasn't been rebooted yet.

Back up first. Open "Full flash controls → Save full flash" before you click Flash. About 25 minutes. You can restore that exact firmware later.

After the flash, load your books

Send the library with Calibre or OPDS. Then add fonts, themes, and a sleep screen.

Web flasher troubleshooting

If the flash dies, it is usually one of these.

Device not detected
Swap the cable first. Charge-only USB-C cables fail silently. Then wake the Xteink to the home screen. Asleep or inside a book, it will not show up as a serial port.
Flash stuck at 0% or "connecting…"
Plug straight into a different USB port on the computer. Hubs cause this. Then unplug the Xteink and plug it back in after the flasher page is open.
Blank screen after flashing completes
Hold Power for 3–5 seconds. The Xteink does not reboot itself after a flash, so a blank screen is normal until you do.
Flasher says connected but flashing fails
The Xteink may be locked. Disconnect, then use the SD card method or the OTA Unlocker if that path covers your model.
"Access denied" in browser
Another tab or app has claimed the serial port. Close other browser tabs and any terminal using the same port.
