Firmware Finder
Which XTEINK firmware should you flash?
13 custom builds change how the X3 and X4 read: fonts, reading stats, dictionaries, CJK, and more. Four questions, about thirty seconds, one clear pick. Locked device? We only suggest builds that are safe to install, and every recommendation traces back to a primary source.

A locked device only ever gets a locked-safe pick.

First things first: do you use a Bluetooth page-turner?
Every custom firmware in this guide drops Bluetooth to free up the ESP32-C3’s tiny RAM for reading features. Only stock keeps it (a few forks add a BT page-turner back).
How the chooser decides
No black box here. Four rules, checked in order, and safety always outranks preference:
- 1 Bluetooth first. If you need a BT page-turner, only stock firmware keeps Bluetooth. Every custom firmware drops it to free the ESP32-C3's tiny RAM.
- 2 Locked means safety first. If your unit is locked (or you're not sure), we only ever suggest CrossPoint or CrossInk, the two firmwares the OTA Unlocker officially supports. Nothing that could strand a locked device.
- 3 Model-aware. X4-only firmware (Microreader, AvesO3, CJK) is never offered to an X3. Answer "not sure" and we treat it conservatively, so an X4-only pick can't land on an X3.
- 4 Then your priority. Once the safe list is settled, we match what you care about — all-round reading, stats & typography, dictionary & flashcards, FB2/Markdown, CJK, Korean, AO3, offline apps, or minimal.
We stress-tested the routing against eleven owner personas; every one landed somewhere safe. The underlying facts live in the FAQ and on each firmware's page. Verified August 11, 2026.
