First things first: do you use a Bluetooth page-turner?

Every custom firmware in this guide drops Bluetooth to free up the ESP32-C3’s tiny RAM for reading features. Only stock keeps it (a few forks add a BT page-turner back).

How the chooser decides

Four rules, in this order. Safety beats preference.

  1. 1 Bluetooth first. If you need a Bluetooth page-turner, only stock firmware keeps it. Every custom firmware drops Bluetooth to free the ESP32-C3's tiny RAM.
  2. 2 Locked means safety first. If the unit is locked, or you are not sure, we only suggest CrossPoint or CrossInk, the two firmwares the OTA Unlocker officially supports. Nothing that could strand a locked device.
  3. 3 X4-only stays off an X3. Microreader, AvesO3, and CrossPoint CJK never go to an X3, and "not sure" only gets firmware that runs on both. An X4 Pro goes to the CrossPoint 1.6.0rc Pro build.
  4. 4 Then your priority. After the safe list is set, we match the remaining firmware to what you asked for.
