# Who PocketInk is

PocketInk answers the questions Xteink owners actually ask, then tests those answers on a real device. It is not affiliated with Xteink. We cover the X3 you can buy today, the original X4 (discontinued August 12, 2026), the front-lit X4 Pro, and what comes next. These readers are tiny, ESP32-powered devices with unlocked firmware on official-store units.

The site exists because the official manuals skip the parts that brick a unit or waste a week: locked versus unlocked buying, CrossPoint flashing, book transfer that actually lands on the SD card, and whether a cracked panel is cheaper to replace than the reader.

Evergreen how-tos cover setup, book transfer, microSD workflows, custom firmware (CrossPoint, Papyrix, Microreader, CrossInk), fonts, cases, and recovery. Lab notes are occasional build logs from hands-on firmware tinkering on the device. Device and firmware hubs keep the spec and flash-method facts in one place so a guide never has to restate a stale table.

# How we verify claims

Firmware and recovery steps are only published after they've been run on hardware. A bad flashing instruction can scare or brick someone's device. Every guide is checked against community evidence and primary sources: official product pages and the firmware projects themselves.
